nickels and dimes.

So, i invented a new game while sitting in class the other day. It is called Nickels and Dimes. Here's how you play:

You need two people and ten pieces of change (one person will always have one coin left over): I prefer 5 nickels and 5 dimes, hence the game's name. You must divide your change equally: each player gets 5 pieces. Also, you must decide how you will differentiate between the two players' pieces (if you can't do big/small, copper/silver, then just do heads/tails). The first player places one of their pieces down on the ground, wherever he or she wants. Now, bascially this game is a modified version of tic-tac-toe, but with more freedom and a greater challenge of spatial awareness. The first piece creates a place in the nine-space tic-tac-toe board. Then the second player can lay one of their coins whereever he or she wants, beginning to imagine their version of the playing board. The size of the board will begin to take shape, as well as the angles and spacing of each of the nine slots for play. Keep your imagined picture of the nine-space board a secret from your opponent. Continue to lay your coins back and forth as if you were playing tic-tac-toe. After about the 3rd or 4th coin is laid, the playing board will have taken shape. The first player with three of his or her own pieces in a row wins, just as in tic-tac-toe. The fun in this game is that it is more free than tic-tac-toe, it also requires more imagination and guesswork, plus it can be played with as little as 10 cents, anywhere, anytime! Lauren and I played and she beat me, though she says that she isn't any good at tic-tac-toe. It's different, trust me. Plus, one of our playing boards ended up being as big as the room. Imagine the possibilities!!!
